As the judiciary continues to shape policy and society, the outcomes of New York City’s judicial elections are increasingly consequential. Voters from all boroughs selected newly promoted Supreme Court justices and first-time Civil Court judges in the latest cycle.
The Trump years demonstrated the impact judicial power has on everyday realities. Now, local voters are more attuned to the importance of court races, knowing that judges interpret the laws that govern their lives. This year’s election results reinforced that trend.
Why Courts Need Our Attention
Even though the media often spotlights Congress or City Hall, it’s the courts that determine housing, contracts, and constitutional questions in NYC. Judges hold much influence over justice and fairness in our communities.
The 2023 judicial races highlighted a renewed understanding that local court elections matter as much as national ones.
